OOIL CONTAINER TERMINALS

Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. (OOCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of OOIL, is the 12th largest container shipping line in the world. It has the container fleet of 373,102 TEUs and provides 78 services covering international trading markets with a fleet of more than 270 ships, including Grand Alliance member line vessels.

Its container terminal business started right after OOCL launched its first fully cellular container ship in Hong Kong in 1969, The self-operated container terminal was built in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. In 1970, the first designated container terminal was built in Long Beach, California, USA exclusively for the OOCL container ships. In 1972, another new container terminals were built in Bayonne, New Jersey, USA. In 1975, Vanterm in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada joined the OOCL family. It became the 4th exclusive terminal for the OOCL container ships. In 1995, OOIL acquired 80% stakes of Howland Hook Container Terminal (HHCT) in New York, USA. The terminal was shut down for 10 years after U.S. Line ceased its operations. (OOIL owed the remaining shares of HHCT in Nov. 2001 and subsequently changed its name to New York Container Terminal in Jan. 2005.) In 1996, the state-of-art modern container terminal was built in Deltaport, British Columbia, Canada.

OOIL sold its 4 terminals, namely, Vanterm, Deltaport, Global and New York Container in 2007 in order to relocate its financial resources to its core shipping business. Today, the Group operates only two container terminals, the result of which formed an integral part of the international containerized transportation business. These two terminals are solely called at by the Group's vessels or by OOCL's alliance partners. One of them is Long Beach Container Terminal in California, USA, and the other is Kaohsiung Terminal in Taiwan.
