The Oriental Giant was a 70,000 ton super tanker built in the Japanese shipyard in 1959. She was featured in the 1960 Britannica Book of the year
as the largest merchant ship ever built, engaged, owned, and operated entirely by Asians.
Special music was composed for the launching of the Oriental Giant. The Chinese version was composed by Dr. Y.R. Chao, a professor at the University of California,
Berkeley. C.Y. Tung wrote the libretto himself. The English version was by Mr. Lin Sheng-shih, a Hong Kong composer.
